Author Guidelines

The Continuous Nutrition Journal (RNC), the official scientific publication of the Center for Research and Continuous Nutrition (CINC), is committed to upholding the highest standards of scientific quality and integrity. To ensure your manuscript moves quickly to the peer-review stage, please follow these requirements closely:

File Preparation and Identity Management

For a transparent and efficient workflow, all submissions must consist of three separate Microsoft Word files:

The Main Manuscript: This file must be completely anonymized (no author names or institutional references) and formatted strictly according to the RNC Official Template.

The Identity Sheet: This separate document should include the full title, names of all contributors with their institutional affiliations, validated ORCID IDs for every author, and contact details for the corresponding author.

Letter of Originality and Copyright Transfer: This mandatory file must specify each author’s contribution using the CRediT taxonomy, along with disclosures regarding funding sources and any potential conflicts of interest.

Technical Standards and Editorial Style

The formal quality of your work is the first step toward acceptance.

Structure: Research articles must follow the international IMRaD format (Introduction, Methods, Results, and Discussion).

Length and Formatting: Manuscripts should be between 3,000 and 8,000 words, set in Arial 11 with single spacing.

Abstracts: Include a structured abstract of no more than 250 words, a technical English translation (Abstract), and standardized keywords using DeCS or MeSH descriptors.

Citations and Bibliographic Integrity

Our journal strictly follows APA 7th Edition style.

DOI Requirement: Every bibliographic reference must include its corresponding DOI as a full link.

Currency: The bibliography should reflect the current state of the art, prioritizing high-impact academic sources published within the last five years to ensure scientific relevance.

Visual Elements and Reproducibility

Integration: Tables and figures must be placed directly within the manuscript text where they belong.

Resolution: Images must have a minimum resolution of 300 dpi and be submitted in editable formats (not static images) to assist in the layout process.

Transparency: We encourage authors to include supplementary files, such as primary datasets or extra materials, to support the reproducibility of the study.

Submission Process via OJS

Submissions are handled exclusively through the journal’s editorial portal.

Metadata Management: After logging in, the system will guide you through several stages.

Accuracy: You must manually enter the information for all co-authors, the title, and the abstract exactly as they appear in your manuscript. This precision is vital for correct indexing in international databases once published.

Ethics and Plagiarism Detection

The RNC follows the COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) principles.

Technical Triage: Every manuscript undergoes a technical screening and similarity check using specialized software within 5 business days.

Rejection Criteria: Submissions that exceed allowed similarity limits or show signs of scientific misconduct will be rejected immediately.

Peer Review: Papers that pass this integrity filter move on to a Double-Blind Peer Review process, where external experts evaluate the quality and original contribution of the research.

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items. Submissions that do not adhere to these guidelines will be returned to the authors.

  1. Originality and Prior Publication: The manuscript has not been previously published, nor is it currently under consideration by any other journal.

  2. Author Responsibility: The author(s) assume full responsibility for the content and certify that they have contributed to the conception, design, and execution of the study, data analysis and interpretation, drafting and revising the text, and approving the final version submitted.

  3. Copyright and Authorship: A signed Authorship and Copyright Transfer Letter, agreed upon by all signing authors, must be attached to the submission.

  4. Compliance with Guidelines: The author(s) declare that they have read and accepted the Revista Nutrición Continua Author Guidelines.

  5. Anonymization for Peer Review: This article will undergo a double-blind peer review by external evaluators; therefore, the manuscript has been strictly anonymized in all sections according to the journal’s regulations.

  6. File Format and Links: The submission file is in Microsoft Word format (for PC), and URL links for references have been provided whenever possible.

  7. Completeness of Manuscript: The submitted file is complete, including the title, abstract, keywords, full text with integrated figures and tables, and the bibliography.

  8. Length and Style: The text does not exceed 8,000 words (including abstract, bibliography, tables, and figures) and strictly adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines found in the "About the Journal" section.

  9. Ethics and Conflict of Interest: The author(s) declare they are free of any personal or commercial associations that could pose a conflict of interest in connection with the submitted article and certify that the research was conducted respecting all ethical principles.

  10. Data Privacy Consent: I/We consent to the collection and storage of my/our data in accordance with the journal’s Privacy Policy.

Thematic Section

1. Purpose and Scope

The Thematic Section of the Revista Nutrición Continua is an editorial space integrated within our regular issues. Its main objective is to table knowledge findings that can impact the direction of nutrition, grouping original research of high relevance around emerging or high-impact topics, or topics derived from symposia, congresses, and special calls within the field of nutrition.

Unlike a Special Issue —which constitutes a complete and independent delivery of the journal—, the Special Section coexists within a regular edition, maintaining the scientific quality standards, visibility, and Open Access accessibility of the journal.

2. Author Guidelines and Management Timelines

To guarantee the consistency and rigor of our editorial workflow:

  • Author Guidelines: All contributions destined for a Special Section must strictly adhere to the same author guidelines in effect for the general section of the journal, ensuring uniformity in the format, style, and structure of manuscripts.

  • Editorial Management Timelines: The deadlines corresponding to reception, peer review, and publication follow exactly the same standards and timelines established for the general section of the journal.

  • Publication Modality: Contributions accepted in a Special Section are published jointly with the ongoing regular issue.

3. Proposal and Evaluation Criteria

Every proposal for a Special Section must meet the following institutional guidelines:

  • Focus and Novelty: Topics must address current issues in nutrition and incorporate approaches of innovation, technological development, and applicability in nutrition. The goal is to open space for new lines of research that go beyond our usual topics and explore emerging areas of global impact, putting findings that can impact the course of nutrition on the knowledge table.

  • Editorial Coordination: Each Special Section will be jointly coordinated by at least one internal editor (affiliated with CINC or the core journal team) and/or one external editor (belonging to another academic institution or national/international academic body), ensuring plurality and quality.

  • Number of Contributions: A Special Section will typically consist of a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 6 articles to guarantee thematic cohesion without saturating the regular issue.

  • Peer Review Process: All manuscripts submitted to a Special Section will undergo the same double-blind peer review process, meaning review by two (2) expert researchers in the subject matter. Acceptance is strictly subject to scientific merit.

4. Workflow and Management in Open Journal Systems (OJS)

To ensure correct indexing, metadata assignment (DOIs, Crossref), and international visibility:

  1. Proposal Approval: The Editorial Board will evaluate the thematic proposal and the profile of the Guest Editor, validating its innovative potential.

  2. Call Configuration: An internal guideline or a specific Call for Papers will be issued if the section is open to external reception, or direct reception of papers will be managed if derived from CINC academic events.

  3. OJS Management: Accepted articles will be tagged and grouped under the corresponding Section within the OJS manager, ensuring they share homogeneous metadata and are published alongside the ongoing regular issue.
